Hola, escribo a este foro en busca de una gran duda. Resulta que instalé hace como un mes instalé Ubuntu 9.04 y me dejó bastante impresionado, sin embargo tengo un problema con la aceleración de la tarjeta gráfica, resulta que se va lento la laptop cada vez que veo un video, por ejemplo en Youtube, el medidor de CPU me marca hasta 100% de los recursos, y eso que no pongo el video en pantalla completa, ya que al hacerlo el CPU se queda en 100% y mi laptop se calienta más rápido, algo que no me sucedía cuando usaba Windows.
Otro problema que tengo es con los juegos, especialmente los basados en OpenGL, éstos corren muy lento en mi sistema, por lo que no sé si realmente tengo los drivers de mi tarjeta activados y el OpenGL activado o no. Ya he consultado con glxinfo y me sale lo siguiente:

Curiosamente al final de este último mensaje me sale una frase que al parecer marca un error fatal de XIO, e ignoro a qué puede deberse ya que no soy muy experto en GNU/Linux. He buscado por toda la red, pero no encuentro una respuesta muy clara, la mayoría de las soluciones son para las mentadas tarjetas NVIDIA y casi nada o más bien nada para las tarjetas ATI Radeón.
También he checado mi archivo xorg.conf y me muestra lo siguiente:

Este es la configuración de mi archivo xorg.conf y sin embargo no parece decirme absolutamente nada, de hecho no veo nada de habilitar la aceleración EXA ni tampoco veo los drivers de mi tarjeta habilitados. He intentado instalar los drivers libres y también los privativos de ATI, pero justo a la hora de reiniciar la pantalla me sale toda distorsionada, no se ve nada sólo una líneas diagonales que salen y nada de imagen clara; por ahí en la red supe que este último problema es causado por la aceleración EXA, por lo que mis preguntas, incluyendo la que puse como Asunto es ¿hay alguna manera de deshabilitar la aceleración EXA para poder incluir la aceleración XAA o las existentes en Ubuntu y así poder instalar drivers libres o privativas? ¿Hay también alguna manera de optimizar las capacidades tanto de mi tarjeta gráfica como de mi procesador? ¿Existe también la posibilidad de modificarle opciones al OpenGL, si es que lo tengo instalado y activado? ¿Y también cómo le hago para que mi Pc no ande tan lento cada vez que quiera jugar y ver videos de Youtube o de otras fuentes?
Mi laptop es una Compaq Presario V2000, Mod. V2615, Procesador AMD Sempron 1.80 Ghz, 1.1 GB de RAM, Tarjeta gráfica ATI Radeón Xpress 200M (también denominada ATI Mobility Radeón Xpress 200).
Agradeceré mucho sus respuestas a este posteo, ya que no es la primera vez que me intento unir al entorno Linux. He probado cada versión de Ubuntu desde la 8.10 y el problema con el que me topado siempre está relacionado con la aceleración gráfica y OpenGL, que en Windows OpenGL se maneja bastante bien, pero en Ubuntu no lo parece; y no quisiera quedarme con esa experiencia.
